Hoffenberg & Block LLC is proud to announce that founding partner; Gloria E. Block, has recently completed 40 hours of coursework in divorce mediation skills training and has received a certificate of completion from Northwestern University School of Professional Studies. This certificate makes her uniquely qualified to engage in cases involving divorce mediation and to further advocate for peaceable resolutions which the firm of Hoffenberg & Block has always encouraged.
Northwestern University’s 40-hour Mediation Skills Training course focuses on fundamental and practical techniques to successfully resolve disputes. The certificate can be used by legal professionals as well as career changers to enter the field of dispute resolution, arbitration and mediation.
This comprehensive five-day intensive provides participants with essential skills and knowledge required to mediate divorce and post-divorce issues such as parenting plans, property division, alimony, child support and children’s expenses, among others. This course also addresses screening for appropriateness for mediation, intimate-partner violence, power imbalances in mediation, and ethical and legal issues for mediators.
Over the course of Mediation Skills Training program, participants:
- Acquire the skills used to assist parties with divergent interests to reach a resolution
- Engage in simulated mediations to develop an understanding of the mediation process
- Work with coaches who have professional conflict mediation experience
- Set performance-based standards for evaluating their own work
- Learn about ethics in the field, opportunities in commercial mediation and arbitration, and how to start building a practice as a mediator
